Hardware Specifications for Capture v5.0

Installing and Configuring DocuNECT v5.0

Table of Contents

DocuNECT Capture systems provide a document on-ramp for third-party document management systems. They can be process intensive depending on the operations they are performing. In order to architect the right capture solution, consider the following points:

1) Average number of documents being captured.
2) The frequency of the capture processes (are they running every minute, every hour, or every day).
3) The type of operations being performed on the documents, i.e. copying between disk locations, OCR'ring the document content, and/or data extraction.
4) The number of users (if any) capturing documents from the desktop

Note, if you are looking to implement the OCR engine the review the following article:

Server Architectures

The following table details three typical environments to provide examples of hardware specifications. Also review the Component Compatibility page for software specifications.

Environment Type Recommended Hardware Specification
Small
A small environment with approximately 5 to 20 users, with desktop capture and low ContentConnector overhead.

Application/Web Server

  • 4 Cores
  • 8 GB Memory
  • 60 GB Operating System partition
  • Second partition with enough space for the content
Medium
A medium environment with approximately 20 to 500 users, with desktop capture and low to medium ContentConnector overhead.

Application Server

  • 4 Cores
  • 8 GB Memory
  • 60 GB Operating System partition.
  • For intensive IO, solid state disk are recommended.

Web Server

  • 4 Cores
  • 8 GB Memory
  • 60 GB Operating System partition
  • Second partition with enough space for the content. It is recommended to place the content on the web server so the HTML5 viewing performance is optimized.
Enterprise
An enterprise environment with approximately 500 users and above, with desktop capture and medium to high ContentConnector overhead.

Application Server

  • 8 Cores
  • 16 GB Memory
  • 60 GB Operating System partition
  • Second partition with enough space for the content

Web Server

  • 4 Cores
  • 8 GB Memory
  • 60 GB Operating System partition

Additional Scalability Options

  • An additional web server can be added for load balancing
  • The database server can be clustered
  • Additional application servers (stations) can be added to load balance the connector activity.
